For mutual a few weeks ago we taught the girls how to do freezer meals.  Total cost was $35 and we ended up with 21 meals, not bad for a college student. (I didn’t add the cost of the cookies into the activity because I had everything on hand.)

We made 7 taco soups, 7 lasagnas and 7 tater-tot casseroles. I also grabbed some bread sticks to go with the lasagna and we made a batch of chocolate chip cookies to freeze.

What you need:

3 pounds of Ground Beef

14 oz can of corn

14 oz can of black beans

14 oz can of diced tomatoes

14 oz can of chili beans

taco seasoning

26 oz can of cream of mushroom soup

14 oz can of green beans

32 oz package of tater tots

1 jar of spaghetti sauce (we ended up using 1.5 just to make the sauce go a little further)

12 oz oven ready lasagna noodles

12 oz cottage cheese

14 mini aluminum loaf pans

1 package of quart freezer bags

tin foil

2 package of Italian bread sticks

We used mini aluminum loaf pans for the lasagna and tater tot casserole, you can get a 5 pack at Walmart for .88 cents. To start we had three girls cook the meat and the other three making cookies. They rolled the cookie dough into balls, put them on a cookie sheet and threw them in the freezer just like this.

After the meat was cooked, we added the ingredients to each pan.

For the lasagna we added a jar of Bertolli Tomato and Basil sauce.

For the tater-tot casserole we added in the cream of mushroom soup and green beans.

And for the taco soup we added the corn, beans, tomatoes and taco seasoning.

For the tater-tot casserole, we filled up the mini loaf tin just over half way and put tater tots on top.

For the taco soup, we scooped out 1 cup of taco soup into a freezer quart bag, sealed it up and set it aside.

Then we layered the lasagna, first the meat mixture, one oven-ready noodle (you’ll need to break it to fit), meat, cottage cheese, noodle, meat, cottage cheese and top it off with mozzarella cheese.

Label and Freeze

When you finish the casserole and lasagna cover them with tin foil and write the cooking instructions on top. They are both the same, bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Pull the cookie dough out of the freezer and put a couple in each freezer bag. Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes. The bread sticks can go in a freezer bag as well. We put two in each bag, add butter and garlic salt and cook at 450 for 5 minutes. Finally for the taco soup, simple heat and serve. Each girl made their own single serving meals and took them home.
