  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1.5 cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoon salt

Instructions 

  1. 1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. 2. Add the yeast to the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until it becomes frothy.
  3. 3. Gradually add the bread flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. 4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. 5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. 6. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. 7. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and poke a hole in the center to form a bagel shape.
  8. 8. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Boil each bagel for 1-2 minutes on each side, then place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. 9. Bake the bagels in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
