Ingredients 

Cake

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

Frosting

  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tablespoon milk

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  3. Combine flour and baking powder, add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Finally stir in the milk until batter is smooth. Pour or spoon batter into the prepared pans.
  4. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven. Cake is done when it springs back to the touch. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
  5. For the frosting: In a large bowl, cream together the butter and vanilla. Add powdered sugar one cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Add milk as needed to achieve spreading consistency.
  6. Frost the cooled cake layers. Decorate as desired.
