Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • few drops food coloring optional

Instructions

  1. 1. Grease a baking sheet with butter.
  2. 2. In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, butter, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  3. 3. Attach a candy thermometer to the saucepan. Continue cooking without stirring until the mixture reaches 270°F (132°C).
  4. 4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and food coloring, if using.
  5. 5. Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and let it cool until you can handle it.
  6. 6. Once cool enough to handle, butter your hands and pull the taffy until it becomes light in color and stiff. This should take about 10-15 minutes.
  7. 7. Roll the taffy into a long rope and cut into bite-sized pieces. Wrap each piece in wax paper to prevent sticking.
