Ingredients 

Speculaas Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the milk and mix until the dough comes together. If the dough is too dry, add a little more milk, a teaspoon at a time.
  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters.
  6. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  7. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
