Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 egg yolks beaten
  • ¼ cup butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 bananas sliced
  • 1 box vanilla wafers

Instructions 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
  3. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and comes to a boil. Boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat.
  4. Gradually whisk about 1 cup of the hot mixture into the beaten egg yolks, then return the egg mixture to the saucepan. Cook for 2 more minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla.
  5. In a baking dish, layer the vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and pudding mixture. Repeat layers, ending with pudding mixture on top.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is lightly browned. Let cool slightly before serving.
