Main Ingredients
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 6 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it is hot but not boiling.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar and egg yolks until well combined.
Gradually add the hot milk to the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
Let the custard cool, then refrigerate until chilled before serving.
