Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and 1 ½ cups sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, beating until combined.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Spread dough evenly in the prepared baking pan.
  6. In a small bowl, mix ¼ cup sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over the dough.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely before cutting into bars.
