Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • as needed vegetable oil for frying

Instructions 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add the vegetable oil and warm water, and mix until the dough comes together.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth, about 5 minutes.
  4. Roll the dough out to about ¼ inch thickness and cut into squares or triangles.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  6. Fry the dough pieces until golden brown and puffed, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  7. Remove sopapillas from oil and drain on paper towels.
