Main Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- ¾ cup warm water
- as needed vegetable oil for frying
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
Add the vegetable oil and warm water, and mix until the dough comes together.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth, about 5 minutes.
Roll the dough out to about ¼ inch thickness and cut into squares or triangles.
Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
Fry the dough pieces until golden brown and puffed, about 1-2 minutes per side.
Remove sopapillas from oil and drain on paper towels.
