Real Italian Calzones Recipe

Ingredients 

Dough

  • 500 g Pizza dough Store-bought or homemade

Filling

  • 200 g Mozzarella cheese Shredded
  • 100 g Ham Diced
  • 100 g Mushrooms Sliced
  • 1 cup Tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano Dried
  • 1 teaspoon Basil Dried
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 Egg Beaten, for egg wash

Instructions 

  1. Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F).
  2. Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface until it is about ¼ inch thick.
  3. Cut the dough into 4 equal pieces.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the mozzarella, ham, mushrooms, tomato sauce, oregano, and basil.
  5. Place a generous amount of the filling mixture on one half of each dough piece.
  6. Fold the dough over the filling and crimp the edges to seal.
  7. Brush the tops of the calzones with the beaten egg.
  8. Place the calzones on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
