Ingredients 

Doughnut Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup warm water
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • Oil for frying
  • Optional: powdered sugar or glaze for topping

Instructions 

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine milk, sugar, salt, butter, and egg. Add yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  6. Roll out dough to ½ inch thickness. Cut with a doughnut cutter.
  7. Let doughnuts rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Fry doughnuts until golden brown, about 1 minute per side.
  10. Drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar or dip in glaze if desired.
