Ingredients 

Pasta

  • 500 g Penne or ziti

Meat Sauce

  • 500 g Ground beef
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 400 g Tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Pepper

Béchamel Sauce

  • 100 g Butter
  • 100 g Flour
  • 1 L Milk
  • 2 Eggs, beaten
  • 100 g Grated cheese (Kefalotyri or Parmesan)

Instructions 

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a skillet, cook the ground beef until browned. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook until softened.
  3. Add the tomato sauce, cinnamon, salt, and pepper to the meat mixture. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. For the béchamel sauce, melt the butter in a pot. Stir in the flour and cook for 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the beaten eggs and grated cheese.
  5. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). In a baking dish, layer half of the pasta, all of the meat sauce, the remaining pasta, and top with the béchamel sauce.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.
