Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Masoor Daal (red lentils)
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 inch Ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 handful Cilantro, chopped for garnish

Instructions 

  1. Rinse the masoor daal under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  3. Add the chopped onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
  4. Add the turmeric powder and sauté for another minute.
  5. Add the rinsed masoor daal and water to the pot. Stir well.
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 25-30 minutes, or until the lentils are soft.
  7. Season with salt to taste.
  8. Garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
