Main Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast about 2 ¼ teaspoons
- 1 cup warm water 110°F (45°C)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup honey for drizzling
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for sprinkling
- 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a smooth batter forms. Cover the bowl with a towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
Using a spoon, drop small amounts of the batter into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Drizzle the warm loukoumades with honey and sprinkle with ground cinnamon. Serve immediately.
