Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Mix in the ketchup, water, and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
