Irish Barmbrack Recipe

Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 225 g Mixed dried fruit
  • 300 ml Strong brewed tea
  • 225 g Self-raising flour
  • 125 g Brown sugar
  • 1 Egg beaten
  • 1 teaspoon Mixed spice

Instructions 

  1. 1. Soak the mixed dried fruit in the brewed tea overnight.
  2. 2. Preheat your oven to 170°C (340°F).
  3. 3. Grease and line a loaf tin.
  4. 4. Mix the flour, sugar, and mixed spice in a bowl.
  5. 5. Add the beaten egg and soaked fruit (including any remaining tea) to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  6. 6. Pour the mixture into the prepared loaf tin and smooth the top.
  7. 7. Bake for about 90 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. 8. Allow to cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
