Cronut Dough
- 2 ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm water
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter cold
- 2 cups vegetable oil for frying
1. Dissolve yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit until frothy.
2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
3. Roll out the dough and layer with cold butter. Fold and roll out the dough several times to create layers.
4. Cut the dough into donut shapes and let them rise until doubled in size.
5. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry the cronuts until golden brown.
6. Let the cronuts cool slightly before glazing or filling as desired.
