Hong Kong Style Egg Tarts Recipe

Ingredients 

Pastry

  • 1.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • ½ cup Butter cold, cubed
  • 2 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 piece Egg beaten
  • 2 tablespoon Cold water

Filling

  • ½ cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Water hot
  • 5 pieces Eggs beaten
  • ½ cup Evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the beaten egg and cold water. Mix until the dough comes together. Wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes.
  4. Roll out the dough and cut into circles. Press into tart molds.
  5. In another bowl, dissolve sugar in hot water. Let cool.
  6. Whisk in eggs, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract into the sugar water. Strain the mixture.
  7. Pour the filling into the tart shells.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.
