Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup dry lentils rinsed and drained
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 bell pepper diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 whole wheat buns

Instructions 

  1. Cook the lentils according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and bell pepper, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Stir in the cooked lentils, tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the mixture has thickened.
  5. Serve the lentil mixture on whole wheat buns.
