Main Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- ½ cup unsalted butter softened
- ¾ cup brown sugar packed
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup molasses
- 1 cup hot water
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking pan.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
In another bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the molasses.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the hot water. Mix until smooth.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
Bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool before serving.
