Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar packed
  • ¾ cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 large egg

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add egg and molasses, beat until combined.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
  5. Roll dough out on a floured surface to ¼ inch thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
  6. Place cookies on baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes. Let cool before decorating.
