Ingredients 

Pastry

  • 225 g plain flour
  • 150 g butter cold and diced
  • 50 ml cold water

Filling

  • 100 g currants
  • 50 g brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 50 g butter melted
  • 1 unit egg white lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoon caster sugar

Instructions 

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour and diced butter until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Add cold water and mix until a dough forms. Chill for 20 minutes.
  4. Roll out the dough and cut into circles.
  5. Mix currants, brown sugar, allspice, and melted butter for the filling.
  6. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold and seal the edges.
  7. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with caster sugar.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
