Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • cup granulated sugar divided
  • 2 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup milk
  • cup melted butter
  • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ¼ cups boiling water

Instructions 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, ¾ cup of the granulated sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder.
  3. Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour the batter into an ungreased 8-inch square baking dish.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, remaining ⅛ cup granulated sugar, and ¼ cup cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter.
  5. Pour the boiling water over the top of the batter. Do not stir.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the center is set and the edges are bubbly. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
