Dough
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
Filling
- 1 cup dark chocolate, chopped
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
Mix flour, sugar, and yeast in a bowl.
Add warm milk, eggs, vanilla, and salt. Mix until combined.
Knead in butter until dough is smooth. Let rise for 1 hour.
For filling, melt chocolate and butter. Stir in sugar and cocoa.
Roll out dough, spread filling, and roll up. Cut in half and twist.
Place in loaf pan and let rise for 30 minutes.
Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
For syrup, boil sugar and water until dissolved. Brush over baked babka.
