Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast or 2 ¼ teaspoons
  • ½ cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Warm water 110°F
  • ¼ cup Vegetable oil
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1 ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Egg yolk for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon Water for egg wash

Instructions

  1. 1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar in the warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. 2. Whisk in the remaining sugar, oil, eggs, and salt. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, until a dough forms.
  3. 3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. 4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. 5. Punch down the dough and divide it into three equal parts. Roll each part into a long rope and braid them together.
  6. 6. Place the braided dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. 7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Mix the egg yolk with 1 tablespoon of water and brush it over the dough.
  8. 8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before slicing.
