Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water

Instructions

  1. 1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. 2. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  3. 3. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. 4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. 5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. 6. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. 7. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and poke a hole in the center to form a bagel shape.
  8. 8. Boil the bagels, 2-3 at a time, for about 1 minute on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. 9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
