Amish Peach Dumplings

Ingredients 

Dumplings

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup shortening
  • ½ cup milk
  • 6 peaches, peeled and halved
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk just until moistened.
  3. Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to about ⅛ inch thickness. Cut into 6 squares.
  4. Place a peach half in the center of each square. Fold corners to center over peach and pinch edges to seal.
  5. Place dumplings in a baking dish.
  6. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, butter, and cinnamon. Bring to a boil, then pour over dumplings.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
